Notre Dame Case Looks Mighty Suspicious
Vital Signs
Those pro-life activists who were arrested on the campus of Notre Dame University in peaceful protests of abortion enthusiast Barack Obama’s receiving an honorary doctorate from the supposedly Catholic school are going up against a judge who is married to Edward Manier. (Manier is a Notre Dame professor notorious for his pro-abortion views, political contributions and associations.)

Chicago Aldermen Approve “Bubble Zone” Restriction to First Amendment Activity at Abortion Clinics

Posted by Thomas More Society (September 30, 2009 at 4:41 pm)

Thomas More Society will sue to prevent measure from going into effect

Without warning to the public, Ald. Vi Daley presented an ordinance restricting First Amendment-protected activity within an 8-foot “bubble zone” within 50 feet of an abortion clinic on September 30, 2009. Learning about the hearing the night before, Thomas More Society Executive Director Peter Breen attended and, on the fly, testified before the committee. The ACLU, Family Planning Associates, and Planned Parenthood, who evidently were part of the drafting of the ordinance, prepared written comments.

Without debate, the City Council passed the ordinance on October 7, 2009, and Mayor Richard Daley has stated that he will sign the ordinance, which will go into effect on November 18, 2009, barring Court action. Thomas More Society is preparing a lawsuit to stop the ordinance from going into effect.

Is Chicago Trying to Kill the Free Speech of Pro-Life Advocates?

Posted by Thomas More Society (September 30, 2009 at 3:36 pm)

Chicago, Sept. 30—Members of the Pro-Life Action League and attorneys from the Thomas More Society will attend the Human Relations Committee meeting of the Chicago City Council TODAY at 9:00 AM (Central) Wednesday, Sept. 30. The Committee is considering an amendment to the Municipal Code to prohibit picketing within 50 feet of any medical clinic.

These organizations strongly suspect this amendment is aimed at preventing pro-life people from praying and reaching out to clients of abortion facilities with information on alternatives to abortion.

Notre Dame’s quest for respectability
From Burke to Kirk and Beyond…
I read here that the University is pressing charges against “eighty-eight peaceful pro-life activists who protested Obama’s visit earlier this year. Among the trespassers was 79-year-old priest Fr. Norman Weslin, handcuffed and dragged away while singing “Immaculate Mary.”

Carter called it correctly
Kansas City Star
Jimmy Carter was the first pro-choice president to receive an honorary degree from Notre Dame, 33 years ago. No outrage. Gerald Ford also received an honorary law degree from Notre Dame, 34 years ago. Not a peep.

Attorney Tom Dixon Files Second Recusal Motion in "ND 88" Case Raising Questions about Notre Dame Professor Married to Judge

Posted by matt (September 28, 2009 at 5:27 pm)

Attorney Tom Dixon today filed a second motion for recusal in the “ND 88″ case [PDF] in which he provides detailed support for his assertion in his previous recusal motion that there exists sufficient actual and perceived bias that Judge Jenny Pitts Manier, the judge assigned to the “ND 88″ case is required by Indiana state law to recuse herself in the matter.

Unlike the original motion, the new motion goes into great detail about the rabid pro-abortion, anti-episcopacy views of Edward Manier, Judge Manier’s husband, a Notre Dame professor and raises serious doubts about claims made by Judge Manier in her previous denial of Dixon’s motion to recuse.

LifeSiteNews Commentary: Notre Dame saga is far from over
LifeSiteNews
The Notre Dame saga is far from over as we see today. The Obama speech and award has ignited a long overdue call for Notre Dame and all Catholic colleges to return to their founding principles…Where to begin? By defending the shamefully persecuted 88 peaceful protesters.

Opinionated Catholic
Because of his clearly unacceptable stand on abortion many who are leaders in the church are willing to pillory President Obama with direct confrontation rather than with clear moral teaching about abortion and public law.”

Pro-Life Harvard Prof Glendon, Rejected Notre Dame Honor, Gets National Award

LifeNews
Mary Ann Glendon, the pro-life Harvard law professor who rejected an award from the University of Notre Dame because it honored pro-abortion President Barack Obama, is set to receive her own award. “What Happened to Notre Dame?”
American Spectator
Notre Dame Law School professor Charles Rice is still on the case of America’s largest religious university’s sell-out. The Obama commencement speech episode is not over, as Rice explains in an open letter to the school’s president begging him to have the charges against the “Notre Dame 88″ dropped.

LifeSiteNews
University of Notre Dame law professor emeritus Charles Rice has issued an open letter to University president Fr. John Jenkins this week, criticizing the school’s attempts at reconstructing a pro-life facade while still refusing to request leniency for the dozens of pro-lifers arrested for protesting the Obama scandal in May.

Advice for Obama’s Point Man at Notre Dame
Veritatis the Cartoon
Yesterday, one of my Catholic, pro-life heroes, Dr. Charles Rice, issued an open letter to Fr. John Jenkins, president of the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Rice has put into words what many pro-life advocates would like tell Jenkins ourselves.

“Notre Dame’s treatment of Fr. Weslin is a despicable disgrace, the responsibility for which falls directly and personally upon yourself”
Laudem Gloriae
A law professor from my old stomping grounds has strong words for Notre Dame University President Fr. John Jenkins for refusing to drop criminal trespass charges against 88 peaceful pro-life activists who protested Obama’s visit earlier this year.
