Does Notre Dame teach irony?

…his message could be made a little more powerful by the addition of 88 pro-life activists to the march — people instead busy preparing for trials because Fr. Jenkins refuses to drop charges against them for protesting the appearance of President Barack Obama at Notre Dame’s commencement in May. Among those charged is Norma McCorvey, the original Roe, who has long ago switched positions and demonstrates against abortion. Free the ND 88 asks for assistance in asking Fr. Jenkins to show consistency…

Hypocrisy Alert: Notre Dame’s President to Join March For Life in DC
Gateway Pundit
The Man Has No Shame– After his controversial decision to invite and honor the most radical pro-abortion and pro-infanticide president in US history to speak at Commencement ceremonies, Father John Jenkins is now planning on participating in the March for Life in Washington DC.

The Jenkins missive is already drawing a poor response from pro-life Catholics turned off by his actions during the Obama graduation scandal. “Apparently the irony was lost on Jenkins that while he will be preparing to protest against Roe v. Wade, the actual Roe, Norma McCorvey, will be preparing for her criminal trial for protesting at Notre Dame after she was arrested under orders from Father Jenkins,” notes pro-life advocate Tom Brejcha of the Thomas More Society legal group.

Hard Hearts at Notre Dame

Please help with the defense of the “Notre Dame 88″. I know that the costs involved in litigation can be enormous. Most of these people do not have the resources and the attorneys are working pro bono. There is a website entitled “Free the Notre Dame 88″ with further information. In addition, contributions can be made to the Thomas More Society in Chicago (www.thomasmoresociety.org) a wonderful organization that has defended other pro-life advocates. May God bless these dedicated attorneys and the people they serve. And, may God change the hearts of the administration of Notre Dame.

Obama Interrupted at University of Maryland by ‘Pro life Moderate’ Yelling: ‘Liar!’

Andrew Beacham, of Arlington, VA, has been arrested “prophesying” to Mr. Obama at Notre Dame’s commencement; to the senate judiciary committee’s interview of Sonia Sotomayor; and Howard Dean’s town hall meeting with Jim Moran of Virginia’s 8th District.

Signs on Life…
Commonweal
Since I recently questioned the consistency of Notre Dame’s policy on contraception and the paucity of parental benefits offered by the University to its employees, I thought it appropriate to share this most recent email message from President Jenkins to the ND community:

Following Obama controversy, Notre Dame president announces pro-life initiatives
Catholic News Agency
Thomas Brejcha, president and chief counsel of the Chicago-based Thomas More Society, told LifeNews.com that the email from Fr. Jenkins was a welcome change. “Every statement or signal we had received from Notre Dame officials since last May had been hostile at worst and at best seemingly indifferent toward those in the pro-life movement who felt that the university had turned away from the pro-life movement or, worse, rebuked it,” commented Brejcha, a 1965 graduate of Notre Dame.

Notre Dame’s Father Jenkins Begins Pro-Life Measures at University, but Still not Dropping Charges against Pro-Life Protestors
LifeSiteNews
Thomas Brejcha, President & Chief Counsel of the pro-life law firm, the St. Thomas More Society, told LifeSiteNews.com that he was “encouraged” by Jenkins’ expression of support for the pro-life cause. However, Brejcha also indicated that unless the university seeks leniency for the arrested protesters, who face heavy fines and jail time, any attempts at healing divisions are unlikely to succeed…”Actions speak louder than words,” he said. “So we’re looking for action.”

Father Jenkins, Notre Dame president and pro-life hypocrite extraordinaire

The protests also cost him a lot of money, as Notre Dame alumni withdrew donations over the Obama dust-up. Father Jenkins was embarassed, and now he’s holding a grudge…The right thing for Father Jenkins to do here would be to drop the charges. Until he does, he’ll be nothing more than a pro-life hypocrite extraordinaire.

Dropping the charges against the protesters would be a good start to finding some common ground. Besides, it is probably in Notre Dame’s best interest to avoid making martyrs out of the 88, and certainly to avoid the additional bad publicity that would accrue to the university from the protesters’ criminal trials.

A Note from Fr. John Jenkins, President of Notre Dame

American Papist
Meanwhile, Ed Morrissey, a Catholic contributor to the widely-read conservative blog Hot Air writes about the ongoing paradox of Fr. Jenkins intending to attend the March for Life soon, while continuing to prosecute those who marched for life on the campus of Notre Dame

Notre Dame = Hypocrites
Voice of Reason
Notre Dame University President, Fr. John Jenkins has sent a letter to Notre Dame alumni informing them that he plans to participate in the March for Life in Washington DC….HOWEVER, Jenkins refuses to drop charges against protestors during the appearance of President Barack Obama at Notre Dame’s commencement in May. Among those charged is Norma McCorvey, the original Roe, who has long ago switched positions and demonstrates against abortion.

There are serious steps that Notre Dame should take immediately to atone for its shocking betrayal of the U.S. bishops and the Catholic Church last spring…Drop criminal charges against those who, through peaceful and civil disobedience, protested last May’s commencement ceremony.
