Advice for Obama’s Point Man at Notre Dame
Veritatis the Cartoon
Yesterday, one of my Catholic, pro-life heroes, Dr. Charles Rice, issued an open letter to Fr. John Jenkins, president of the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Rice has put into words what many pro-life advocates would like tell Jenkins ourselves.

“Notre Dame’s treatment of Fr. Weslin is a despicable disgrace, the responsibility for which falls directly and personally upon yourself”
Laudem Gloriae
A law professor from my old stomping grounds has strong words for Notre Dame University President Fr. John Jenkins for refusing to drop criminal trespass charges against 88 peaceful pro-life activists who protested Obama’s visit earlier this year.

The Examiner
Ed Morrisey notes the irony that Fr. Jenkins is stating his intent to mend divisions and join forces in the support for the sanctity of life all the while refusing to drop the charges against eighty-eight people who were charged with trespassing for staging a peaceful and prayerful protest against the President Obama speech and honorary law degree. Those facing trial include Norma McCorvey, the actual Roe of Roe v. Wade, and Fr. Weslin, a 78-year-old priest. The Thomas More Society Pro-Life Law Center has asked Fr. Jenkins to dismiss the charges. The President of the Thomas More Society notes that the University of Notre Dame security personnel specifically arrested pro-life protesters while intentionally ignoring those carrying pro-Obama signs or those taunting pro-life protesters.

What Happened?
The Curt Jester
There has been a lot of commentary on the state of Catholic education and its apparent secularization. The Notre Dame invite to President Obama also focused a lot of attention on this and it does cause you to wonder exactly how we got to this point.

Fumare
Those 88 defendants were on the other side of the campus, far removed from the site of the Commencement. They are subjected by Notre Dame to the criminal process because they came, as individuals, to Notre Dame to pray, peacefully and non-obstructively.

All Hands On Deck!
A website has been set up to raise awareness that Fr. John Jenkins and the University of Notre Dame are refusing to drop the charges against the 88 pro-life demonstrators who were arrested on campus this past Spring while defending Church teaching.

Les Femmes – The Truth
Those 88 persons, 82 of whom are represented by Tom Dixon, ND ’84, ND Law School ’93, were arrested not because they were there, but because of who they were, why they were there and what they were saying.

The Catholic Spirit
With President Barack Obama’s controversial May commencement speech at the University of Notre Dame several months past, the president of the Indiana school has forged ahead with plans for a national discussion on abortion.

The Irish Rover
… it would be a mockery for you to present yourself now at the March, even at the invitation of Notre Dame students, as a pro-life advocate while, in practical effect, you continue to be the jailer, as common criminals, of those persons who were authentic pro-life witnesses at Notre Dame.
