Thomas More Society Announces Efforts to Shut Down Illegal Abortion Center in Dayton, Ohio

Ohio Department of Health Orders Abortion Facility to Cease & Desist;

District Judge Marbley Allows Them to Remain Open for Business

On Friday, February 29, the Thomas More Society participated in a press conference in Kettering, Ohio, organized by Dayton Right to Life. The event brought to light the illegal operations of the Women's Medical Center located at 1401 East Stroop Road in Kettering, the last operating abortion facility in the Dayton area.

The center has been operating without a license and has been ordered by the Ohio Department of Health to cease and desist all operations because they are in violation of state law. However, District Court Judge Marbley has issued a Temporary Restraining Order against the Department of Health in order to allow the illegal facility to remain operating. This abortion center is owned and operated by Dr. Martin Haskell, pioneer and promoter of partial-birth abortion.

Denise Mackura, Executive Director and Legal Counsel of the Thomas More Society (pictured above, left), is acting on behalf of Dayton Right to Life as their attorney on this case. She presented a statement to the press urging the State to respond to the center's blatant violation of state law, and indicated the Thomas More Society's intention to file a citizens action lawsuit on behalf of Dayton Right to Life if the State of Ohio refuses to take appropriate action. Her statement may be read in full here:  Press conference statement

In addition, several legislators and local leaders, including State Representative John White (R-38) and Executive Director of Dayton Right to Life, Christi Dodson (both pictured above), provided comments and information to the media and the public.

"We have to wonder why this abortion business
has been allowed to operate in violation of state law
for so long
and has not been held to the same standards
as other
medical facilities," said Mackura.

"If the state of Ohio does not act, we will!"
