When Planned Parenthood opened what was at the time the nation’s largest abortion clinic in Aurora, Illinois in the summer of 2007, pro-lifers there moved quickly to oppose their plans. Leading the charge was Aurora resident Eric Scheidler, the Executive Director of the Pro-Life Action League.
During the fight to keep the center from opening, Planned Parenthood of Illinois CEO Steve Trombley sent letters to Aurora’s mayor and city council and placed ads in local papers accusing Joe Scheidler, the Pro-Life Action League and local activists of having “a well-documented history of advocating violence” among other baseless charges.
To protect their good name and that of the pro-life movement, Eric Scheidler and over a dozen dedicated Aurora pro-lifers took Planned Parenthood to court on charges of libel. Read more history on the Scheidler v. Trombley case here.
