Thomas More Society – In the News – July 2017

  • The Thomas More Society represents Dr. Robert Lawler in a lawsuit to fight against an Illinois law that requires doctors to tell their patients about abortion options. On the Fox News show, “Tucker Carlson Tonight, Dr. Lawler said that “I cannot and will not comply with this law that is a complete affront to my conscience beliefs – my firmly held religious beliefs – that life is sacred.”

  • Thomas More Society attorney Thomas Olp also told the Catholic News Service that “We represent over 20 medical pregnancy centers in Illinois who basically came to us saying, ‘We cannot comply with this law,'” an Illinois law requiring doctors to tell their patients about the “benefits” of abortion.
  • Also in June, the Thomas More Society had another victory: the Society reached a settlement with the City of Chicago over unequal application of the bubble zone, which requires pro-life activists to stay eight feet away from women who enter abortion clinics. In The Cook County Record, Thomas More Society attorney Thomas Olp said, “It’s a step forward for our clients who are pro-life counselors.”
  • The Morning Call reported on the support that the high school students got from parents, students, and community members for their Trojans for Life club at the Allentown high school, following legal actions by the Thomas More Society.
