The Thomas More Society’s relationship with the Pro-Life Action League has always been a special one. The Pro-Life Action League was founded in 1980 by the late Joseph Scheidler, known as the “Godfather of Pro-Life Activism.” His aim was to save unborn children through non-violent direct action. After Joe’s 1985 manual, “CLOSED: 99 Ways to Stop Abortion,” was published he became a target of the abortion industry. In 1986, Joe and the Pro-Life Action League were sued by the National Organization for Women and a network of abortion facilities for the “crime” of conspiring to deprive women of the right to abortion. Attorney Tom Brejcha signed on to represent Joe. In the crucible of this David versus Goliath battle, the Thomas More Society was born, making Joe Scheidler and the Pro-Life Action League the original clients of the firm.
NOW v. Scheidler, the case that brought about the Thomas More Society, dragged on for almost 30 years, with three visits to the United States Supreme Court. Ultimately, the Thomas More Society delivered victory for Joe and the Pro-Life Action League.
