Pro-Life Action League

The Pro-Life Action League empowers people who value life to become active in the fight against abortion in their own communities. The recognized national leader in dynamic, effective pro-life activism, the Pro-Life Action League relies on the Thomas More Society to defend the First Amendment rights of life-advocates to speak out against abortion and offer life affirming alternatives.

The Thomas More Society’s relationship with the Pro-Life Action League has always been a special one. The Pro-Life Action League was founded in 1980 by the late Joseph Scheidler, known as the “Godfather of Pro-Life Activism.” His aim was to save unborn children through non-violent direct action. After Joe’s 1985 manual, “CLOSED: 99 Ways to Stop Abortion,” was published he became a target of the abortion industry. In 1986, Joe and the Pro-Life Action League were sued by the National Organization for Women and a network of abortion facilities for the “crime” of conspiring to deprive women of the right to abortion. Attorney Tom Brejcha signed on to represent Joe. In the crucible of this David versus Goliath battle, the Thomas More Society was born, making Joe Scheidler and the Pro-Life Action League the original clients of the firm.

NOW v. Scheidler, the case that brought about the Thomas More Society, dragged on for almost 30 years, with three visits to the United States Supreme Court. Ultimately, the Thomas More Society delivered victory for Joe and the Pro-Life Action League.

The Pro-Life Action League trains, facilitates, and coordinates multi-pronged pro-life activism. With a successful track record of gaining media attention, educating the public, and saving the lives of unborn babies, the Pro-Life Action League is the best at what they do.

Under the direction of Executive Director Eric Scheidler, Joe’s son, who assumed the reigns in 2009, the Pro-Life Action League has led hundreds of local leaders across the country in coordinated national prayer and protest events, including the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children.

The Pro-Life Action League conducts abortion clinic witness gatherings, public protests, and events that fight Planned Parenthood. Through national networking and coordination with life advocates across America, they are able to speak on behalf of life and decry the killing of preborn babies outside of abortion facilities nationwide. The Pro-Life Action League has become an A-list media source for comments about life issues.

The Pro-Life Action League provides:
  • Training for local volunteers in offering sidewalk counseling for abortion bound women and couples
  • Tools for raising awareness of the injustice of abortion through marches, pickets, prayer vigils, and the display of abortion victim images in the public square
  • Information about abortion providers and their allies, abortion facilities and pro-abortion events, and inside data about illegal and unseemly activity
  • Creative options for confronting abortion providers and promoters with the reality of what they are doing

The Thomas More Society ensures that the Pro-Life Action League and its participants know their rights and understand the laws that could impact them. When local laws conflict with Constitutional rights, Thomas More Society attorneys are there to rush to the defense of those who defend life.
