TMS WEEKLY DISPATCH 9/29/25

Here’s the latest news from the past week at Thomas More Society, in our legal battles defending life, family, and freedom.

Welcome to the TMS Weekly Dispatch for September 29, 2025—with the latest news and updates from the front line, to keep you in-the-know on all things Thomas More Society. If you missed last week’s edition, you can read it here.

Here’s the latest:

ALVIN BRAGG FAILS TO PROSECUTE VIOLENT ATTACK AGAINST PRO-LIFER: Last week, TMS attorneys, led by Senior Counsel Christopher Ferrara, announced they will file suit in civil court seeking damages on behalf of pro-life reporter Savannah Craven Antao against her assailant Brianna Rivers, after Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s office failed to prosecute Rivers’ felony assault charge.

Earlier this year, Savannah was conducting “woman-on-the-street” interviews with passersby about abortion. During their conversation, Rivers struck Savannah several times, sending her to the emergency room for stitches and resulting in $3,000 in medical bills.

Despite the whole attack being caught on camera, Alvin Bragg’s office downgraded Rivers’ charge to a misdemeanor, failed to file evidence to meet a deadline, and quietly dismissed it.

“Political violence should never be tolerated or given a free pass. When those in power refuse to hold accountable those who respond to free speech with violence, it threatens the very fabric of a civil society. I will not be intimidated or silenced when it comes to speaking up the unborn, and with the support of Thomas More Society, I will keep pushing for accountability,” reacted Savannah.

“We will seek justice for Savannah, including punitive damages, as a lesson to those who think they can respond to pro-life speech with violence,” added Christopher Ferrara.

TMS SENIOR COUNSEL TO TESTIFY ON PERSONHOOD: Steve Crampton, TMS Senior Counsel, is set to testify before the Senate of South Carolina’s Medical Affairs Committee this week, testifying on fetal personhood and the law, in particular, how they relate to a proposed bill that would amend South Carolina’s code of laws to include the “Unborn Child Protection Act” (Senate Bill 323).

Crampton is widely regarded as a leading legal expert on fetal personhood, the notion that preborn persons in the womb possess the same Constitutional rights that persons outside the womb possess.

“A Personhood Amendment does nothing more than recognize what science, medicine, and logic have long affirmed, namely that an unborn child is fully human and fully alive from the moment of conception or fertilization. It thus brings the law into conformity with reality,” he wrote.

The hearing will take place on Wednesday, October 1, at 9:30 AM ET. You can watch the livestream here.

BREJCHA ON ASSISTED SUICIDE: Thomas More Society Founder & President Tom Brejcha penned a Letter to the Editor of the Chicago Tribune, condemning Illinois’ alarming move to consider legalizing assisted suicide.

“Dignity is not a privilege bestowed by youth, health, beauty or capacity. It is inherent in every person, rooted in our Creator’s endowing each of us with natural rights—to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” writes Brejcha.

“Every person’s dignity is inherent and essential, not bestowed by mere “choice” nor diminished by suffering, and surely not salvaged by suicide. Our Land of Lincoln must renew its commitment to protecting and caring for every member of our society, especially the suffering, weak and vulnerable.”
