Tyler Brooks

Senior Counsel
Biography

Tyler Brooks is Senior Counsel at the Thomas More Society with more than 15 years of legal experience. He has successfully tried cases before judges and juries, argued appeals in state and federal courts, and acquired extensive experience with private arbitration. Based in North Carolina, he joined the firm in 2021 as Special Counsel and was promoted to his current role in January 2023. He also maintains a private law practice in North Carolina.

Brooks earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School, where he served as Articles Editor of the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law and received Scholastic Excellence Awards in Evidence and Corporations. He also olds an LL.M. in Taxation from Villanova University School of Law and received a B.A., summa cum laude, in Latin from Wake Forest University. At Wake Forest, he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and awarded the M.D. Phillips Prize in Classical Languages.

Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Bernice Bouie Donald of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee and theHonorable Walter C. Kurtz in the Tennessee state court.

In addition to his legal practice, Brooks teaches Business Law and Ethics at Thales College in Wake Forest, North Carolina, and previously taught at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. His writings have appeared in Carolina Journal, Judicature, and In-House Defense Quarterly.

Brooks is admitted to practice in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Michigan, as well as before numerous federal appellate and district courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He is certified as a South Carolina Circuit Court Arbitrator by the South Carolina Board of Arbitrator and Mediator Certification and as a North Carolina Superior Court Mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission.

His professional honors include being listed in North Carolina Super Lawyers and election as a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He is active in the Federalist Society, the North Carolina Bar Association, and his local bar.
