Here's a look back at the past week:
THOMAS MORE SOCIETY CHALLENGES SAN DIEGO’S DOUBLE STANDARD ON FREE SPEECH: On behalf of Roger Lopez, a sidewalk counselor who has saved over 100 preborn lives through his advocacy, Thomas More Society attorneys are urging the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn an anti-speech ordinance that allows abortion facility staff and volunteers to speak freely while restricting the speech of pro-life sidewalk counselors like Roger, who risk six months in jail for offering a leaflet or holding a sign that shares the pro-life message.
Christopher Galiardo, TMS Staff Counsel, observed:
“Sidewalk counselors like Roger empower tens of thousands of expecting moms to choose life by connecting them with free pregnancy and parenting resources that local abortion businesses try to hide from them… I look forward to the Ninth Circuit, long a champion of free speech, vindicating Roger’s right to offer women in need health and hope.”
COURT DECLINES TO PROTECT PRO-LIFE SPEECH, PROMPTING NINTH CIRCUIT APPEAL: Thomas More Society attorneys are appealing a U.S. District court judge’s decision to decline to grant a preliminary injunction for pro-life pregnancy center Culture of Life Family Services, which sought to block California Attorney General Rob Bonta from expanding his unconstitutional attacks on pro-life pregnancy centers’ right to speak about Abortion Pill Reversal.
Peter Breen, TMS Executive Vice President and Head of Litigation, said:
“In labeling constitutionally protect speech against Abortion Pill Reversal as ‘fraudulent’ and ‘deceptive,’ Bonta is stripping pregnant women of their constitutional right to choose to have their babies and shutting down the right of people to speak about this lifesaving, effective, and science-backed option.”
